Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve

One of my favorite places we have been to in Chile is Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. This Nature reserve is only about two and a half hours from Temuco, but  feels a world away. We travelled there with the McWilliams´and had a wonderful time enjoying nature, staying is the worlds most beautiful hotel (Cabin Section) and eating delicious food. Thanks Doug!

Huilo Huilo has two amazing hotels. One is called the magic mountain and the other is the Baobab. The Magic Mountain is a hotel inside of an actual waterfall and the Baobab is alive. There are trees growing trough every part. You can feel nature all around you.

We tried a few amazing activities in the actual Nature Reserve. On the first day we went horse back riding in the forest. We traveled through water and among the mountains. It was breathtaking. Literally for me, I again almost died because of my allergy to horses. That however did not compare to Celina getting thrown from her horse right before the trip began. No worries, she got right back on and let the way!

After the horseback riding adventure we kids decided to go zip lining through the ancient trees. It was exhilarating and terrifying.

Fun in the trees

The coolest activity was taking ATVs to the top of a volcano. With little to no instruction, we women hopped on the back of the McWilliams´ boys ATVs and rode into the wind and the cold to the summit (well almost) of an active volcano. AMAZING. I don’t think anyone enjoyed it more then Doug, who was jumping for joy every time we stopped. I don’t think anyone enjoyed it less than Celina who was stuck with River, her new fiancé and terrible ATV driver.

Yeahhh!!

Doug and Jani Dancing!

On the last night we took a torch lit walk to the waterfall. It was beautiful and a bit scary.

All in all Huilo Huilo is  a beautiful and truly magical place in the world. I hope to go back there someday.
